Favourite film:
Withnail and I. For the most quotable script ever and the performances. Richard E. Grant has never bettered his as the drunken, drug-addled and doomed thespian, Withnail; Richard Griffiths masterfully plays Uncle Monty, the highly eccentric tragi-comic queen; Ralph Brown's less-than-bling drug dealer, Danny, is pitched perfectly somewhere between reprobate and prophet and Paul McGann's downplayed "I" swings appropriately between bemusement and horror. I also love its quintessential Britishness - the squalid flat, the dour locations and the dreary beauty of  wherever it is that doubles for the Lake District.

Favourite cinema ad:
Favourite at the moment has to be the new Sony Bravia ad - the one with all that coloured paint exploding across a concrete council estate. I think it's vastly superior to the "Balls" execution, plus the music's better. I reckon Jose Gonzalez (who strums and sings on the "Balls" soundtrack) is a bit Nick Drake-lite, talented and tuneful but slightly dull.

Desert island brand:
iPod, so I can listen to my Jose Gonzalez collection as I stare at the horizon and contemplate the futility of it all.

Favourite film:
I have two... 1: Ghostbusters (Ground breaking with both special effects and style. It is iconic, original and has an amazingly scored soundtrack!) 2: John Carpenter's, The Thing (Total quality, super craft with both effects and budget,  great writing and terrific acting all round). These are two movies that I could see at least once a month and never tire off!

Favourite cinema ad:
That Orange ad with John Cleese, where he tries to pitch an idea about a World War II submarine, suspenseful, epic movie and brings a red light with him for effect, and all the execs do is laugh in appreciation because they think he's pitching some new Monty Pythonesque comedy skit!

Desert island brand:
I really do think it would have to be my iPod with all my music plus a few classic movies on it too! Or just Natalie Portman!!

Favourite film:
Probably "Star Wars". If you can ignore the dialogue it really was a superb story told fantastically. It is also the first film I can really remember seeing in the cinema. I would say "Grosse Point Blank" is right up there as well - John Cusack's finest moment.

Favourite cinema ad:
I do like the series of ads for Amstel. They are all based on epic stories so look brilliant on the big screen, and they are actually funny. I always used to like the ad for the local tandoori restaurant when I was a kid - it was just a still shot of a plate of Indian food but at the end it did a very fast zoom into the mango chutney. Scary stuff.

Favourite film:
Seven - Not only does Brad Pitt, as always, please the eye immensely but he also acts his butt off. The psychological intensity is perfect and it is one of the most gripping (instead of unrealistic and mostly boring) pieces of horror I have ever seen. At the other end of the scale I'm a massive chick-flick lover, they have the ability to make me feel like the world is not such a bad place after all!!

Favourite cinema ad:
Volkswagen Golf 'Singing in the Rain' ad - "The original...updated" featuring Gene Kelly.

Favourite film:
I really hate having to choose one, but if I had to it would probably be Goodfellas. I can watch it over and over again without getting bored. But then I could also say that about Thelma and Louise, Team America, Robin Hood Prince of Thieves and the Back to the Future Trilogy. Still, Ray Liotta in Goodfellas is one of my favourite performances ever. His coked up (justified) paranoia as he races around town being followed by a chopper on the day he gets caught is one of my all time favourite scene sequences.

I know the Orange post reel ads are a popular choice, but I love the one with Steven Segal on the golf course - it's awesome.

To Have and Have Not

A great film based on A Hemmingway story and the first to star Humphrey Bogart and Lauren Bacall together.

It has many similarities with another classic Bogart classic, Casablanca, but for me this always wins out. Bogart as Harry Morgan is again the ex-pat American on foreign shores as he reluctantly becomes involved with the free French. Bacall is only 19 in this film confident with it and so many memorable lines. The pairing of the two leads, and the little tussle Bacall has with the film's other female character, Dolores Moran, make the film sparkle throughout. The addition of Walter Brennan as Bogart's drunken sidekick, Eddie, completes a strong cast. It’s a Howard Hawks film as well and he went onto direct another of my favourite films - Rio Bravo, which incidentally also has Brennan co-starring.

Favourite cinema ad:

Has to be the Orange Cinema ad featuring Steven Segal. It has been a great series of ads, now past its best, but that one for me with Segal laughing at himself as he tries to present his script (and get the last laugh) always raises a laugh. It's also, I think, the only "action" spot in the series. Besides who wouldn't pay to see golf cart racing?

Desert island brand:
This is easy. My Dell laptop. All my music, all my pictures and movies with a superb 17 inch screen. I'm hoping I'll be able to make a generator out of coconuts. Otherwise I'm going to totally regret not picking a pair of Nike Airs for that beach running.

Favourite film:
A difficult one to decide as I have so many favourites, largely depends on my mood but any of the following would be up there: The Shawshank Redemption, E.T., L.A. Confidential, Platoon, Moulin Rouge, Life is Beautiful, LOTR Trilogy, Dirty Dancing, Gladiator, The Sound of Music, It's a Wonderful Life and more recently I loved The Departed and The Bourne Ultimatum.

Can't I have ten? My favourites vary between The Life & Death of Colonel Blimp or The 39 Steps. Or maybe Andrei Rublev. I'm tempted to go on but I'll stick with the first one.

Favourite cinema ad:
The best advertisement I ever saw at the cinema was the Benson & Hedges one with the lizard, the swimming pool and the desert. It is in fact the best advertisement I've ever seen and it is what inspired me to get into the business.

Diamond White (1991) 'Appearances can de deceptive'.
Such a simple idea, using the large screen to it's best effect and not a CGI in site. After all this time, it is still the one I remember the most but I have never even tried it! Just in case you need to see it click here...

Guinness 'Surfer' ad - perfect for the big screen. Although am keen to see more 3D and interactive ads and how these will develop.

Desert island brand:

Favourite film:
Favourite film is a real tough one. Can I say my favourite film writer/director?  John Hughes is an absolute legend. Writing such classics as Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Weird Science, National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation and Planes, Trains and Automobiles to name just a few. Not a man who you're going to see at too many Oscar ceremonies but a person who is pretty much responsible for shaping my sense of humour.

Favourite cinema ad:
If I'm putting my creative head on I would have to say Guinness "Surfer". Brilliant story, great cinema-tography and sound design and an unrivalled attention to detail. I do have a bizarre special fondness for a Bacardi ad. I'm not sure what it was called but it's the one that says "Aunty Beryl, the Dog & Duck...the last bus home." whilst showing idyllic Caribbean surroundings. It was literally on every time I went to the cinema and became part of the whole experience.

Desert island brand:
The Discovery Channel is growing massively as a brand in America, hopefully they would be showing a special on desert island escapes.

Favourite film:
The Heart is a Lonely Hunter. Not easy to get hold of, but Alan Arkin is genius in it as a deaf mute upon whom everyone else saddles their troubles, and Sondra Locke, in her first role, is excellent.

Favourite cinema ad:
The Orange series. I laugh every time I see them, particularly the Darth Vader and Seagal executions. Truly memorable.

Favourite film:
Impossible to call, but it's between 'Dog Day Afternoon', 'Shaun of the Dead' or 'The Big Blue'... I'd say the latter for the cinematography & the weird soundtrack!  However, I can never write off Shaun of the Dead, purely for its ability to make me cry laughing... it gets funnier the more I watch it.

Favourite film:
I've tried to fight it but it's got to be the Lock Stock... follow up, Snatch. An unusual choice but there's so much in it that's ridiculous you spot something new every time. I also loved The Departed recently. A fantastic film. And while I'm at it I would like to state how fervently I disagree with my esteemed former colleague Ian Quinn's opinion of Holiday. The worst film I have ever seen, and that includes Anger Management.

Favourite cinema ad:
I'm loving that Schweppes one with the guys preparing drinks at a party. Not a very glamourous product but such a funky ad with great music. Which is now stuck in my head!

Desert island brand:

Favourite film:
My favourite film is Scarface because I love how you spot something new every time you see it and, despite the violence and crime, it's beautifully shot and timeless.  Al Pacino owns that role; you can't see anyone else playing it, even De Niro.  It just wouldn't have been what it was, I don't think.  The gangster genre really interests me - despite the fact these men would not think twice to kill, they look after their own and have a strong code of honour (apart from when they're mashed on their own supply like Tony at the end!).  It's kind of romantic in a way.....

Favourite cinema ad:

My favourite cinema advert at the minute is the Orange post reel ads with Snoop Dogg.  The actors do a great job of making the script come across how it's meant to; current, tongue-in-cheek, and funny.  Done badly, it could have been cringe-worthy!  And I love all that 'Fo shizzle' talk - I sometimes do it with my housemate and it cracks us both up!

Desert island brand:

My desert island brand is probably the hardest.  I'd probably say iTunes because I love music and to be able to access everything from old to new would wile away the hours nicely til my rescue!  I'm hoping that logistics and money aren't an object here...  Actually, I could spend my time making up crazy dance routines then, when I got back, enter Britain's Got Talent and win £100k!  And I'd be tanned - perfect.

Favourite film:
I like a film that makes me laugh and cry, therefore my shortlist would have to be: One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Millions (I know, but it is my choice).

Favourite cinema ad:
Kylie in Agent Provocateur purely because it became a 'must see' ad, so you actively went to the cinema to see it. Cheap joke at the end, but hey, she must have seen the appeal, shortly afterwards she launched her own range!

Desert island brand:
For a desert island, would have to be Quintessentially.com.

Favourite film:
Gees, it's really hard to choose, either Silence of the Lambs, Misery or Red Dragon. Yep anything a bit psycho floats my boat, the more warped the better. I'm not really into all this talk about genre, style, dialogue etc, if the acting's good, the men are hot and there's plenty of special effects and action well yeah I'm hooked! I'm also a big fan of anything by Tarantino, Reservoir Dogs being the best, don't you just love the bit where Mr Blonde cuts off Marvin's ear and talks into it - hilarious! (yep I've a sick sense of humour too!)

Favourite cinema ad:
Definitley has to be the Orange ads, especially the Steven Seagal version on the golf course with all the special effects and the helicopter etc - excellent!

Desert island brand:
It's gotta be a speedboat of some description, with an all male crew!
